Buenos Aires, Argentina
He was born in New York in 1967, just a quick stop before he and his parents returned to their native Argentina where he calls Buenos Aires home. It is little wonder that Roberto would choose, over everything, a life centered entirely on, travel, cars, motorcycles and overlanding. He is possessed and Argentina is the perfect canvas for molding a life filled with such pursuits. Roberto counts among his travels, the Amazon, the Siberian Road of Bones, the entirety of South America from top to bottom, many European countries, parts of Asia and of course the USA. He has a reputation for being unflappable, a brilliant problem solver, a logistics maestro and always…. always calm, even in the face of challenge. These attributes are indispensable in foreign environments that can test the resolve of the overlanding enthusiast. He brings joy to any expedition.
San Miguel de Allende, México
His blended heritage as a Mexican of German and Eastern European roots, lends to this man’s insatiable curiosity and love of life. His skills as an overlanding enthusiast, mechanic, tour guide, problem solver and keen instincts in foreign environments, has for decades come to play, traveling extensively throughout South America, Mexico, Central America, Europe, Cuba and the USA. He is a walking encyclopedia of all things motorized, especially in the world of international motorsports and classic automobiles. Above all he is a professional whose singular goal is to make certain that all who are around him, have the most fulfilling and enjoyable travel experience. He knows no stranger. His passions are contagious. Guys like him change lives. That is what we do at KaravanADV.
Istanbul, Türkiye
From the moment we worked our first event together in 2004, it became certain that Türkiye and the surrounding regions would be marked as a favored adventure destination. “Kaz” holds the prestigious degrees necessary to be a licensed tour guide in a part of the world that is layered by several millennia of rich culture and history. His extensive knowledge, logistics sense and wealth of resources has opened us to experiences throughout Central Europe, the Black Sea region, intriguing journeys into the Islamic Republic of Iran, the remote Caucuses of Chechnya and Dagestan and less traveled eastern Anatolia of Türkiye. Kaz provides a unique level of know-how that is sure to be called on as KaravanADV has big plans for a future Silk Road Expedition from Istanbul to Xi’an China 2028.
Cairo, Egypt
His first journey to the Western Desert of Egypt in 1997 ignited a life changing transformation. So moved by what he witnessed, he pivoted away from his student pursuits in chemistry and as a teacher, to becoming a full time desert explorer. With each journey into the desolate wilds of the Sahara, like the Bedouin nomads, he would hone his navigational skills and learn to overcome critical supply logistics. His archeological findings from the Nile River to the borderlands of Libya and Sudan have rewritten the books on Egyptology, his contributions appearing in numerous journals on the subject. Mahmoud is without question, one of the great overlanding desert explorers of our time.
Albuquerque, New Mexico USA
Born in Boston in 1967, raised in Israel he set off on an over two year round the world journey by motorcycle after completing his military service. Self-taught in the pre-digital era of videography and photography, he would spend seven years rafting the most remote and challenging rivers of the world shooting and editing documentaries. He has a keen eye for being able to capture the essence of adventure travel whether it be desert landscapes at sunrise from the heights of his motorized paraglider, overlanding the Southwest USA in his Toyota 4-Runner or up close encounters with Aymara Indians in the Andes of Peru. And while he is called on to provide exceptional visual content for KaravanADV, his contributions as a member of the Expedition staff team has rightfully earned him a reputation as the kind of guy that you are likely to eventually call, “friend”.
